Dissolution of Marriage

The commencement of a dissolution of marriage action can be difficult and emotionally trying.  An experienced family law attorney can assist her Client navigate the process by informing Client of his or her legal rights, identifying the issues, guiding Client through the procedural requirements, creating a proposed settlement plan, and litigating in Court, if necessary.

Ms. Pimentel has roughly 30 years of experience representing clients in dissolution of marriage, as well as other family law cases. She believes in resolving conflict in the least adversarial course possible. Despite occasional animosity between the parties, all or some of the issues can be resolved amicably by negotiations via the parties’ respective attorneys with or without the assistance of a Mediator. (See Mediation section.)  Ms. Pimentel aims to reach a resolution of all the pending issues by a written and signed Settlement Agreement whenever possible. This often eliminates the need for a trial, thus, reducing the length and expense of the process.

Some cases of Dissolution of Marriage are simpler that others, such as where the parties have no marital property or children and where the parties have an oral agreement regarding the terms of dissolution prior to filing the case. These cases may qualify for a flat fee for services instead of an hourly rate, as is most common. Scheduling a free initial consultation can clarify if a flat fee is appropriate in your case.
